Mikey DJ, formerly known as Mike D'vinyl, embarked on his remarkable musical journey in 1989, marking the beginning of a lifelong passion for the art of DJing. His story is a testament to the evolution of music technology, the relentless pursuit of musical excellence, and the enduring love for house and garage music.
Born and raised in the vibrant musical landscape of East London, Mikey DJ's early days were shaped by the vinyl culture that dominated the scene. With unwavering dedication, he honed his skills on Soundlab Belt drive Turntables before making the momentous switch to the legendary Technics 1210s. His vinyl collection, amassed over decades, serves as a treasure trove of US House & Garage, UK jungle, and Drum & Bass, reflecting the rich tapestry of electronic music.
Mikey DJ's musical selection is a fusion of Deep Underground House and UK US Garage, distinguished by its deep and bumpy groove, complemented by soulful vocal elements. Each of his sets is a transcendent journey, designed to awaken the senses and ignite a fiery passion for the beat in his audience.
Working as a sound engineer for Eskimo Noise Sound Systems equipped Mikey DJ with the finesse needed to fine-tune his sets to perfection. He graced the decks at renowned UK events such as Cookies & Cream, Pure Silk, Labyrinth, Sunnyside Up, World Dance, and Telepathy, leaving an indelible mark on the dance music scene.
In his relentless pursuit of musical excellence, Mikey DJ cherished vinyl hunting as a way of life. He scoured select shops like Rhythm Division, Blackmarket Records, and Boogie Times, all in pursuit of those pristine musical gems for his prime-time slots on Magic FM and Passion FM.
Mikey DJ's journey was also deeply intertwined with the golden era of pirate radio, where he contributed his passion to the airwaves of London's top pirate stations. The thrill of spinning records, operating the mixer, connecting with listeners through a phone line, and the sheer joy of sharing his music was an experience like no other. It was a time before the era of social media, making each performance even more special.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mikey DJ achieved several milestones, including winning the 2001 Vestax DJ Competition and becoming a regular DJ for Jeremy Sylvester’s Urban Dubz and the London event Garage Paradise. Having a prime time Friday evening slot on Grant Nelsons D3EP Radio Network is a lovely cherry on top. His journey also led him to explore music production, a pivotal moment that further molded his unique sound and vision as a DJ.
Today, Mikey DJ remains an active force in the music scene, constantly evolving and gaining new knowledge, advice, and building valuable friendships within the industry.
Formerly a DJ and presenter on various platforms like RISK FM, MAGIC 90.2 FM, TOUCH FM 94.0 FM, CHICAGO FM, PASSION 91.8 FM, PHATBEATS.NET, WORLD DANCE RADIO, SOHRADIO.FM, Souled Out House Radio USA, and RADIO STUDIO HOUSE ITALY, Mikey DJ continues to share his passion with the world.
Currently, you can catch his vibrant sets on Jeremy Sylvester's URBAN DUBZ every Saturday from 6-8 PM GMT and on Grant Nelson's D3EP Radio Network every 2nd Friday from 6-8 PM GMT.
