Tuff Jam, made up of Karl “Tuff Enuff” Brown and Matt “Jam” Lamont, were among the scene’s most influential producers and remixers in the mid‑to‑late 1990s, helping define the genre’s signature sound—shuffling 4×4 beats, soulful vocals, and swung percussion.
Keith Tharme worked closely with them as both an engineer and collaborator; he also contributed to projects under the Locked On and Unda-Vybe umbrellas. Robot Brian is a nickname sometimes associated with that network of producers and remixers in London’s garage underground.
Together, they helped build the sonic foundation that shaped modern UK garage, 2‑step, and house hybrids.
